2025 Special Census

Post Date:11/19/2024

The City of White House is set to conduct a Special Census in early 2025, in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau. This initiative, starting in February 2025, will help the city determine its current population, which has significantly grown since the last census count. The certified population currently sits just below 13,000 residents, but with rapid growth, the city expects the population to be closer to 18,000 residents.

Whether you own a home or rent, every resident counts! If you call White House home - we want to hear from you! For each additional resident, the City of White House stands to receive $175 per person from State Shared Tax Revenues. If the population has grown by 5,000 residents as projected, the city could receive up to $875,000 in additional revenue from the State of Tennessee. These funds will help improve city services, infrastructure, and public programs, ensuring a higher quality of life for all residents.

Why the Census is Important

Participation in the Special Census is crucial for the future of the City of White House. Accurate population data allows for more precise planning and funding allocation for schools, roads, and emergency services. More importantly, it helps ensure the city receives its fair share of state funding, which is directly tied to the population count. By participating, residents are directly contributing to the development and growth of their community.

How the Census Will Be Conducted

The Special Census will begin with an online response phase. The U.S. Census Bureau will mail invitations to all housing units starting February 19th, 2025, encouraging citizens to submit their responses online through the Internet Self-Response (ISR) system. This phase will last until March 24th, 2025, and will be supplemented with multiple reminder mailings to encourage participation.

For residents who do not respond online, Census Day will take place on April 1st, 2025, marking the beginning of in-field operations. Census representatives will start going door to door to gather responses from households that have not submitted online data. This effort will continue until June 3rd, 2025, ensuring all White House residents are counted.

Certification and Final Reporting

Once the census is complete, the collected data will be compiled, reviewed, and prepared for certification. The final certified report is expected by September 2025, confirming White House’s official population and its eligibility for increased state funding based on the new count.

City Administrator Gerald Herman urges all residents to take part in the census, saying, “Our city has grown tremendously, and every response counts. By participating, you are directly helping us secure vital funds for our public safety and infrastructure that benefit the entire community. Let’s make sure every person in White House is counted.”
